Koshi Tappu Wildlife Reserve

Koshi Tappu Wildlife ReserveEstablished in 1976, Koshi Tappu Wildlife Reserve is 175 square kilometres of wildlife refuge and wetlands habitat. It is located in Eastern Nepal and can be accessed from the Mahindra Highway. It comprises extensive mudflats, reed beds, and freshwater marshes in the floodplain of the Sapta Kosi River, and ranges in altitude from 75 to 81 m (246 to 266 ft.). It was established in 1976 and designated as a Ramsar site in December 1987. In additional to wildlife, the Reserve also protects a substantial part of the Sapta Koshi, (a tributary of the Ganges River) flood plain. In 1987, it was declared a Ramsar site.

The reserve is also home to the water buffalo (called arna), deer, nilgai, mugger crocodile, Ganges River Dolphin (also called the Gangetic Dolphin), and over 280 species of birds.


3 Day Koshi Tappu Wildlife Safari

Day 01: Upon arrival at the bus stop or at the Biratnagar airport our office representative will meet you and transfer you to the resort.

  • Refreshment and brief about the program
  • Have a lunch and rest
  • Birding in the near by surroundings of the park
  • Sunset walk and view from the river bank
  • Dinner and slide show about flora-fauna

Day 02: Activities

  • Wake up call, refresh drinking tea or coffee
  • Morning nature walks within near surrounding area
  • Breakfast
  • Boating on the Sapta Koshi River with a naturalist to observe water birds, water buffaloes, dolphins and various water habitats
  • Disembark by the bank of the river and have picnic lunch
  • Short drive to the Koshi Barrage to view some bird-life and fresh water Dolphins
  • Late afternoon return to the camp
  • Dinner

Day 03: Activities

  • Wake up call, refresh drinking tea or coffee
  • More bird watching around
  • Have breakfast and pack
  • Transfer to Biratnagar airport and fly to Kathmandu

Trip Include
